IEEE-PES Distinguished Lecture by Prof. Gian Carlo Montanari

October 9, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Hello All,
You are cordially invited to attend the IEEE-PES Distinguished Lecture by Prof. Gian Carlo Montanari.
Come join us for coffee, donuts and an amazing seminar!
Title: Insulation life in the emerging electrical environment
When: October 9th, 2019 (11:00 am-12:00 pm)
Where: EIT 3142
Speaker: Professor Gian Carlo Montanari
Invited by: Professor Shesha Jayram

Abstract: Modern electrical assets, from T&D to industrial and electrification transport assets, are experiencing a revolution regarding the voltage supply: waveforms are becoming less and less sinusoidal AC, and hybrid use of electrical apparatus can be an option for optimal asset management. This may have the consequence of seriously affecting insulation system reliability, as long as design criteria and diagnostic procedures are not implemented. This talk has the purpose to glance out the aging factors in such non-sinusoidal environment, their impact on aging rate, dynamic aging models to support the design and diagnostic procedures, based on health condition estimation of insulation systems.

Speaker Bio: Prof. Gian Carlo Montanari is a visiting Professor at CAPS-Florida State University. He has been a professor of electrical technology in the Department of Electrical Energy and Informatics, University of Bologna, where he taught courses in Technology, Reliability and Asset Management. He has worked since 1979 in the field of aging and endurance of solid insulating materials and systems, in diagnostics of electrical systems, and innovative electrical materials including magnetics, electrets, nanostructured polymers, and superconductors. He is also engaged in the fields of power quality and power systems design, power electronics, statistics, new materials for electrical applications including superconductors, nanomaterials, and piezo-electrics, diagnostics and condition monitoring of electrical assets, and asset management. He is an IEEE Fellow. He is the founder and was the president of the spin-off company Te-chImp.
