Distinguished Lecture by John McDonald on Grid Modernization and Data Management in Utilities
Join us for a distinguished lecture by John D. McDonald, industry expert and IEEE Life Fellow, as he explores the latest trends in grid modernization, Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), and the Internet of Things (IoT) in the electric utility sector. McDonald will highlight the critical need for distinct data management approaches for operational and non-operational data within IEDs, and showcase new analytics advancements driving utility efficiency. Emphasis will be placed on the convergence of Operations Technology and Information Technology for enterprise data management, while standards for interoperability and integration will be discussed as essentials for grid modernization.
Further, McDonald will cover innovative data sources such as UAVs and robotics, discussing available data and essential data management principles.

About the Speaker:
John McDonald is the Founder & CEO of JDM Associates, LLC, with 50 years of experience in electric utility transmission and distribution. He has received numerous awards and honors, including the IEEE Millennium Medal and CIGRE USNC Philip Sporn Award, and has taught Smart Grid courses at Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Tennessee. His extensive contributions to power engineering include 150 publications, five books, and one US patent.
