January 2021Outstanding Volunteer Award 2020 – Anakarina Alvarez BSE, P.Eng. SMIEEE is Sr. Electrical Lead Engineer at Worley. She has 24 years of international experience in EPC projects in Austria, Canada, USA, Mexico and Venezuela. Most of the  professional career has been dedicated to the Oil and Gas industry. Her experience  comprises  conceptual, basic (FEED), detail engineering design, procurement, construction packages preparation and commissioning for oil and gas facilities including: Gas compressor stations,  metering stations (mid streams), well pads (up-streams), crude up-graders, SAGD CPF, refinery and petrochemical process facilities (downstream). She has  participated in specification and selection of major electrical equipment, electrical system evaluations, and factory acceptance tests.

She has additional experience as construction superintendent, and participated  in construction activities such as planning, field engineering support,  mechanical completion and commissioning. She is  currently a professional engineer registered in the following provinces: Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia.



August 2, 2019Outstanding Volunteer Award 2019 – Abra O’Leary, B Sc., MIEEE , received a B.Sc. in Public Health from the University of Colorado where she worked as a program coordinator and co-taught ethics and leadership with CU Denver’s Business School. She is also a certified foreign language teacher and has worked as a K-12th grade substitute teacher for core classes, computer science, physical education and as a paraprofessional/social worker in inner city schools. Abra is now currently back in school and pursuing a second bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and working as an intern in the power and energy industry.

 

August 2, 2019Outstanding Engineer Award 2019 – Tamer Abdelazim Mellik, P.Eng., Ph.D., (S’02-M’06-SM’14) received his BSc. degree from Suez Canal University in 1995, and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Calgary in 2005. He has over 20 years of power system engineering experience involving 500 power system projects for Canadian and U.S. utilities, EPCs, construction companies, and some global consultants. He has co-authored 40 technical papers in international journals and conferences. He is the recipient of several awards, including the University of Calgary ENEL Best Teaching Assistant Award in 2005 and the IEEE IAS PCIC 2nd Best Paper Award in 2018. He acted as the IEEE IAS I&CPS 2019 Technical/Pub Chair and is currently participating in writing IEEE Transients and Datacentre standards. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the provinces of Alberta and Manitoba. His countries of work experience include the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia, Brazil, the Netherlands, Egypt, Puerto Rico, Kuwait, and United Arab Emirates.

 

April 3, 2019Outstanding Engineer Award 2018 received by Ehsan Abbasi for his outstanding technical contribution to the power engineering profession and constant service, participation and support to the IEEE and  PES/IAS Southern Alberta chapter.
