Alexandra Branzan Albu is a Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Victoria (BC), Canada. She holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Politehnica University of Bucharest. Dr. Branzan Albu’s research focus is on computer vision. From a practical standpoint, her contributions to this field involve raising and solving research questions that are closely linked to societal needs such as environmental monitoring, medical imaging, and document image analysis. Due to the interdisciplinary and applied nature of the research problems under investigation, Alexandra has developed a number of successful industrial collaborations with companies such as ASL Environmental Sciences, QuirkLogic, Open Ocean Robotics, Vivitro Labs etc. who have all provided funding for her research. Her research is also funded by the Canadian Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC Canada).
Dr. Branzan Albu has been serving on the executive committee of the International Association of Pattern Recognition (IAPR) as secretary (2014-2018) and 1^st vice-president (2018-present). She was the Chair of the IEEE Victoria Section from 2017 to 2019. She has previously served as Technical Program Chair (2008-2012) and Student Branch Coordinator (2016) of the IEEE Victoria Section.

Narges Attarmoghaddam is a Ph.D. candidate in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at the University of Victoria, Victoria, BC, Canada. She received the B.S. and M.S. degree in Electronic Engineering from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Mashhad, Iran, in 2009 and 2014, respectively. Her research interests include Field-programmable logic, Machine learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Internet of Things.
She has been serving as the vice-president (Oct 2017-Oct 2018) and treasurer (Oct 2018-Oct 2019) of the Iranian Students’ Association (IRSA) at University of Victoria. She has also been involved with Victoria Iranian-Persian Cultural Society (VIPCS) as a volunteer and leader in organizing Iranian cultural events over the 2018 and 2019 years.
